This weekend was filled with near misses. My family came out to celebrate Mother's Day, Lily's birthday, Grace's birthday and to watch Grace and Ella play soccer. We had many agenda items and we NEARLY completed them all. The following is a list of the things we NEARLY did this weekend:
We NEARLY watched Grace and Ella play soccer. About a block away from Yankton Trail Park, Jason received a phone call from Ella's coach informing us all games had been cancelled due to wet fields. Argh! Ella quietly muttered, "This stinks!" as she and Grace both were looking forward to showing off their sweet skills.
We NEARLY rammed right into the back of Dad's car on more than one occasion because of Dad's terrible driving. Following the unforeseen soccer cancellations, garage sale-ing was decided on as an alternative activity. Some of you may know, Mom and Dad are King and Queen of the Garage Sale Crowd and Dad's head spins when he spots a cardboard sign on a stick on a corner. In his haste to get the deals, safe driving falls by the wayside and Jason had to just try to keep up.
Lily NEARLY had to relieve herself on the side of a gravel road while garage sale-ing with Mom and Dad since there were no bathroom facilities nearby. They tried to convince her it would be OK but she informed them "It is not appropriate and everyone will see my privacy." She waited until proper accomodations were located. Good girl.
We each NEARLY consumed our own body weight in food between our meals at HuHot, The Kolb Grill and Casa Del Rey. We seriously need to reconsider our eating habits. Quite frankly, it's a little much.
Dad NEARLY got us kicked out of the neighborhood due to his donning of a shirt that was WAY too small for him and frolicking in the backyard. I have pictures but the image is just too disturbing and feel my blogging privileges may be suspended if I were to post them. You'll have to just imagine how he looked in a bright red, Daytona Beach 1985 half shirt that belonged to Jeremy when he was 12 years old. Yep, cornea searing and brain numbing.
Jason NEARLY started a fist fight between himself and Dad when he reached over and took the rest of Dad's burger off his plate and NEARLY ate it. He noticed Dad looking at him strange just as the burger was reaching his lips and said, "Oh, were you going to finish this?" Yes, Dad was planning on finishing it and was just taking a stretching hiatus. The burger was returned to it's rightful owner and the crisis was averted.
Jeremy NEARLY made it through the whole night without falling out of bed. Unfortunately being in a unfamiliar setting coupled with general middle of the night confusion proved to be too much for old JerBear. Luckily for him, he was sleeping on an air mattress on the floor and didn't have too far to fall.
Grace NEARLY turned herself into a human pretzel while trying out her new rollerblades.
Sheila NEARLY won 80's Trivial Pursuit if it wasn't for that pesky rule of having to answer multiple questions correctly. Drats.
Lily NEARLY was the fanciest Nancy to ever walk the Earth. Oh wait, that actually happened. Check out the outfit she rocked today at brunch, at church and at the Kolb get together at Maria and Joel's.......
Grace and Ella NEARLY made it a whole hour after the Carter's departed before discussing how much they missed them all.
Gus NEARLY ate all of his first birthday cake without making any mess at all.....
Lily NEARLY ate her entire Curious George cupcake without getting a speck of frosting on her chin.....
I NEARLY decided farm livin' is the life for me after gazing deeply into these eyes........
Nope, farm livin' is definitely not for me. Never mind.
Lily NEARLY made it all the way home from Maria's without falling asleep but just couldn't quite keep those beautiful blues open.
Of all the near misses we experienced this weekend, there is one thing that did FOR SURE happen and that was that I had one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. A huge thanks to my family for making the trek out and providing many, many laughs, good times and memories. Thanks to Maria and Joel for having us all out for a wonderful Mother's Day/Gus' birthday party. Thanks to Jason for choosing me to be the mother of his children. And last but definitely not least, thanks to Grace, Ella and Lily for being the most special, wonderful and beautiful daughters this Mommy could ever ask for.And here are a few pictures that I couldn't figure out how to work in but were too cute to leave out.
