Ella's 1st Communion and Grace's birthday...

Today was an extraordinarily important day at the Kolb compound.

Ella, along with three of her cousins and three other members of our church community had their First Holy Communion.  It was a lovely event with many, many photo opportunities that I took full advantage of so please enjoy my documentation of this momentous occasion...
Jason and I are so proud of Ella and the solemness with which she approached this important sacrament.  It is our hope that she will hold this day close to her heart always and feel God's love and blessings all the days of her life.

In addition to First Communion, Grace turned double uno (11) today.  It's a funny thing with kids. When I think back to 11 years ago today, it seems so long ago.  My life was so different then.  I so clearly remember Jason and I sitting on the porch swing the night before she was supposed to be born and discussing how much our lives were about to change.  I felt ill-prepared, overwhelmed yet so very ready to meet our first child.
However, it also feels like just yesterday and I cannot imagine a day without Grace.  She is every good part of me and then some.  Never in my wildest dreams or my most fervent prayers could I have imagined I would be given the opportunity to be a mother to this lovely young lady.  Grace is my radar, my memory, my guinea pig, my thinker, my challenge but most of all Grace is my heart.  The world is a better place because she is in it...
Grace~We love you so very much.  Thank you for being you.  Happy birthday!

Just some pictures...

Nothing new to say but wanted to share some photos of what we have been doing the past few days...

The Goalassal Soccer Bash and Ella's final soccer game of the season...
Celebrating Lily and Grace's birthday with a very quick trip to STJ, complete with supper at Jake's and many, many quarters spent on the stuffed animal crane game~resulting in heart palpitations, four new stuffed animals and smiles around the horn...
A very cold soccer game for Lily at which she played like a total rock star and scored SEVEN goals followed by team photos which definitely showed 12 chilly and windblown ladybugs...
And a trip to the Sertoma Butterfly House today...
where the butterflies were very much attracted to the least enthusiastic butterfly enthusiast of the bunch...
where desperate times called for desperate measures...
and where I was able to experiment with some settings on my camera resulting in a few cool pictures...
While the weather hasn't reflected it yet, summer vacation has officially begun in the Kolb household.
